Financial aid is money available from federal, state, university and private sources to help students and their families meet college costs. Financial aid will help pay for direct educational costs such as tuition, books and fees, as well as personal living expenses such as housing, food and transportation. Financial aid is designed to assist students with paying for the cost of attending college.
Almost anyone who needs financial assistance to attend Northwest may receive financial aid. However, according to federal regulations, students must meet the following requirements in order to be eligible for federal financial aid:
To be considered for most forms of financial aid awarded by our office, you need to complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Our Federal School Code is 002496.
To apply for any Departmental of Foundation scholarships through Northwest please view the information regarding the Standard Scholarship Application.
Approximately one out of every three FAFSAs submitted to the Department of Education will be selected for a process called verification.
When your financial aid package for the upcoming year is ready to view, we’ll notify you. In addition, you should continue to check your financial aid status periodically to ensure that you’re meeting all requirements.
Disbursement is the process through which our office distributes financial aid to Northwest students’ accounts.
We’re required by federal regulations to ensure that all enrolled students are making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) toward completing their degree.
